A woman who spent two hours waiting in line to win a year’s worth of free Dunkin’ coffee walked away with exactly what she had come for. Unfortunately, she didn’t get very far before losing her entire prize.

Visibly upset, @_jvon reflects on this costly mistake as she sits in her car. She explains that her local Dunkin’ recently closed for a month for renovations, before reopening with a promotion offering customers free coffee for a year.

“I waited two hours to get in line,” she says. She notes that she was with her 5-year-old daughter and estimates that she was around 60th in line.

Jvon says she bought a coffee, a doughnut, and a Gatorade, and that her daughter picked up a few promotional gifts, including a keychain. She adds that she also received a coupon booklet entitling her to free coffee for a year.

Jvon says the Dunkin’ employee placed the coupon booklet in the hand with which she was holding her “scorching hot” cup of coffee. “I couldn’t even hold [the coffee] properly,” she explains, “so I rushed to my car and set the coffee down on the roof of my car along with that [expletive] coupon book.”

“I left it on the roof of my car”

At the same time, her daughter, who had received promotional items from the store, was eager to attach her new Dunkin’ keychain to her backpack. “She was talking to me; there was a lot going on,” Jvon explains.

Amid all the commotion, she attached the keychain, grabbed her coffee, buckled her daughter into the car, and drove off. It wasn’t until after she dropped her daughter off at daycare that she realized something was missing.

“I [looked] on my seat because I wanted to check the coupon booklets, and they [expletive] weren’t there. They [expletive] weren’t there,” she says. Then came the terrifying realization: “I left that [expletive] coupon book on the roof of my car. I left it on the roof of my car.”

The designer immediately retraced her steps, but says the coupon booklets were nowhere to be found.

“Someone is rejoicing in my misfortune right now,” laments Jvon. For a regular Dunkin’ drinker, this momentary lapse could very well have cost her a significant amount of money.

What does “a year of free Dunkin’” really mean?

Despite the promotion’s name, winning a year of free Dunkin’ doesn’t necessarily mean a free coffee every day.

At some Dunkin’ store openings, the coupon booklet includes four coupons per month. That averages out to one free coffee per week.

When a Dunkin’ store in Stratford, Connecticut, reopened in January 2026, the first 50 customers received “a coupon booklet containing four coupons for a free medium hot or iced coffee per month for 14 months.” These coupons were valid only at that specific location.

The coupon booklets distributed at a Dunkin’ store that reopened in Alexandria, Virginia, in September 2026 followed the same model. They allowed customers to enjoy “four free medium hot or iced coffees per month for 14 months.” Online, coffee lovers reported seeing the same offer.

Can Dunkin’ replace a lost coupon booklet?

Unfortunately for Jvon, replacing lost Dunkin’ coupons isn’t as simple as making a request to the company. The company’s terms and conditions state that “Dunkin’ is not responsible for and will not replace coupons that are late, lost, stolen, damaged, expired, undelivered, or undeliverable,” although these provisions do not specifically mention promotional coupon booklets distributed at reopening events.

This is important because virtually all Dunkin’ locations are independently owned and operated franchises, which means these coupon booklets are typically distributed by the store owners themselves rather than by the parent company. Since the rules for the specific promotional offer in which Jvon participated have not been established, his best chance of getting a new coupon booklet would be to contact his store directly.
