Editorial and Ethical Policy — OMA. Revised October 27, 2026.

This page describes how content published by OBOX Media & Audience (OMA) brands, including DoYou, is produced, verified, attributed and corrected, as well as the role of artificial intelligence.

It applies to all of our websites, in both French and English. Our content is created and authored by humans; technological tools, including AI, support our work but never replace it. We update this policy whenever our practices evolve.

Scope and Editorial Responsibility

Ultimate responsibility for all published content rests with OMA’s editorial management.

OBOX Media & Audience is a private company. It owns and operates numerous websites, both directly and in partnership with others.

Each brand has its own editorial identity, but all adhere to the guidelines set forth here. When a brand publishes in both French and English, the same fact-checking standards apply to both editions.

Our Principles

Four principles guide everything we publish.

  • Accuracy over speed. An unverified fact must wait; we’d rather publish later than publish something false.
  • People first. A human being develops the angle, selects the sources, validates the text and takes responsibility for it.
  • Transparency. Readers must be able to trace information back to its source: a named source, a link to the original document or statement.
  • Respect for individuals. We distinguish between public and private life, avoid unsourced rumours, and grant a right of reply to those implicated.

Fact-Checking and Source Verification

All content is verified by an editor before publication. No text is posted online without this step.

The editor ensures that each piece of information is based on at least one of the following:

  • a named source, identified in the text;
  • an official statement or press release from an organization, team or representative;
  • reporting by our own team, including our interviews and on-site observations;
  • a recognized reference source, cited and linked.

Information that is not based on any of these elements is not published. When a fact is reported by a third party and we have been unable to confirm it ourselves, we explicitly state this and name the source.

Each brand relies on a set of sources defined and approved by the editorial board, specific to its area of coverage. Social media and forums may bring a topic to light, but they never, on their own, constitute confirmation.

Writing About History at DoYou

Each date, figure and anecdote we publish is checked against recognized references such as The Canadian Encyclopedia, Encyclopaedia Britannica, national archives, museums, official organizations and established media. Canadian facts and figures are confirmed by at least two independent sources. When a story is disputed or rests on legend, we say so in the text. Each article ends with a list of the sources consulted.

Attributions, Citations and Rights

Any information from a third party is attributed to that third party and linked to its original publication.

Quotations are reproduced faithfully; when a quotation is abridged or translated, this is indicated in the text. We never present another media outlet’s work as our own. Stories from content partners whose work we acquire are credited to their authors.

The images and videos we publish come from our own footage, licensed stock libraries, public-domain and openly licensed collections, or content for which we have been granted permission; they are credited in accordance with the rights holder’s requirements. A rights holder who believes that content has been used without authorization may contact us: we will promptly remove or rectify the issue.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

We use artificial intelligence as a production tool, never as a substitute for our journalists.

What AI can do for us: identify and compile sources within an approved scope, translate, format, and produce a first draft based on the sources and guidelines provided by our team.

What AI does not do: independently choose a topic or angle, attribute a statement, decide on a disputed fact, or publish a text online. Source selection, editorial judgment, rewriting and final approval are handled by human writers and editors.

When content has been produced with the assistance of AI, a note appears at the end of the text: “Created by humans, assisted by AI.”

The verification process described above applies in full to this content: the use of AI does not diminish the obligation to verify.

Corrections and Reporting Errors

If an error slips into a piece of content, we correct it as soon as possible.

  • A factual error is corrected as soon as it is identified, without waiting for the next update to the text.
  • A correction that changes the meaning of a piece of information is noted at the bottom of the article, along with the date.
  • A typo or stylistic correction is made without any mention.
  • Removed content is replaced with a note explaining the removal.
